What is a brow lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, is a procedure that lessens creases on the forehead or across the bridge of the nose. As we age, chronic contraction of the muscle above the eyebrows causes deep lines across the forehead and between the eyebrows, or in some cases drooping of the eyebrows. This can make us look tired, sad or even angry all the time. Sometimes this can even cause visual obstruction.

A brow lift or forehead lift is a procedure that revitalizes the forehead and eyebrow regions to address these problem areas, giving a more youthful appearance.

What does brow lift surgery involve?

A brow lift can be performed using either a traditional incision or a minimally invasive approach. The skin and muscles are altered to give a more youthful appearance. This procedure can often be performed in conjunction with additional procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. Scars can often be hidden under your hair.

Preparing for your surgery

Our surgeons will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding certain vitamins and medications. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home from the hospital after your surgery and to help you out for a day or two if needed.

What to expect after a brow lift

After a brow lift, you can expect to be tired due to the anesthesia. You can also expect swelling and bruising, which will subside within a few weeks. Stitches and surgical tape might be used to hold incisions closed while they heal. You should be able to return to work within a few days, however healing will continue for several months.

The effects of a brow lift will be long-lasting, but aging can reverse them over years. You can expect smoother forehead skin and a more youthful appearance. 

Brow lift side effects and risks

Risks related to a brow lift are similar to risks of most surgeries. The biggest risks are bleeding, infection and unfavorable scarring. Our surgeons make every effort to lessen these risks. You will have an opportunity to ask questions about any risks before your procedure.
