Lip Augmentation
What is lip augmentation?
Lip augmentation is a procedure that adds fullness or definition to lips, or gives lips a more desirable shape. In some cases, dermal fillers such as Juvederm can achieve desired results. In other cases, lip augmentation surgery might be more useful in achieving the wanted affect.
What does lip augmentation involve?
Lip augmentation using dermal fillers like Juvederm involves only a numbing of the skin and a series of injections. If fat is injected instead of another dermal filler, the procedure will first involve extracting fat from another area of the body through liposuction.
You can expect to see the effects of lip augmentation immediately. How long lip augmentation lasts depends on the filler used and how your body handles that filler. Therefore, results are different for each patient.
Lip augmentation side effects and risks
Lip augmentation side effects are usually minor and temporary. They include bleeding from the injection site, bruising and swelling. In rare cases, lips become lumpy or asymmetrical. Lip scarring or stiffening are also possible, but very rare.
